I think people might feel the classic cultural cringe.
As someone who used to be an overseas fan of local music here, I feel like I should remind everyone potentially seeing this that a perceived local cringe factor doesn't matter to the entire rest of the world. It's CHARMING if you come from small town Aotearoa and a selling point with a story attached to it.
The bane of my last 15 years! Thinking, wow that's catchy, willing to make something happen, just to learn the band aren't Kiwis, or based here.
Hours (essentially) wasted to find out if music is even local, and all it'd take is one little note somewhere.
Be proud to be the only sludge metal band from Alexandra - that's cool, not cringe. 🤷
Having a point of difference is an advantage! Artists can be too self conscious in general
